Privacy Policy

Trackster CS ("Trackster CS", "Trackster", "we", "us", or "the app") is an outdoor activity tracking and social application that lets you record hikes, runs, and rides, capture photos along your route, and share your activities with other people. Trackster CS is operated by an independent individual developer (the "developer").
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used and stored, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have. By creating an account or using Trackster, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you register, we collect the information needed to create and secure your account: your email address and a username/display name. If you sign in using Google or Apple, we receive a basic profile identifier and email address from that provider. If you use "Sign in with Apple" and choose to hide your email, we receive only Apple's private relay address. Account credentials are managed through Amazon Cognito; we do not store your password ourselves.
Location data
With your permission, we collect precise GPS location while you record an activity, including in the background — see Section 2.
Photos and camera
With your permission, you can take photos with your camera or select photos from your library to attach to an activity. Photos you add may include GPS coordinates ("geotags") so they appear at the correct point on your route. Photos you attach are uploaded to and stored on our cloud storage. We access your camera and photo library only when you choose to add or save a photo.
Content you create
We store the content you create in the app, including recorded tracks and routes, activity titles and descriptions, comments, likes, chat messages, friend connections, and any reports or blocks you submit.
Device and technical information
To deliver notifications and keep the service reliable and secure, we collect a device push notification token (if you enable notifications), and basic technical data such as app version, device type, and server logs (including IP address and timestamps of requests).
2. Location data (including background)
Location is at the heart of Trackster. With your consent, we collect precise GPS location to:
- record the route of your hike, run, or ride;
- display your activity on a map;
- geotag photos you take during an activity.
Trackster requests background location access so that an activity keeps recording accurately when the app is not in the foreground or your screen is locked — for example, when your phone is in your pocket during a long hike. Background collection happens only while an activity is actively being recorded; it stops when you finish or pause the recording.
You control this through your device's permission settings and can revoke location access at any time. If you deny or revoke location permission, route-recording features will not function, but you can still use other parts of the app.
3. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- To record, display, and store your activities and routes.
- To provide social features: friends, feeds, likes, comments, and chat.
- To send push notifications you have opted into (e.g. friend requests, messages, activity reactions).
- To keep the service safe — including processing reports, enforcing blocks, and moderating content.
- To maintain, secure, debug, and improve the app.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. How information is shared
Your information may be visible or shared in the following ways:
- With other users, according to your privacy settings. When you publish an activity, you choose whether it is public, visible to friends, or private. Your username, profile, public activities, comments, likes, and chat messages are visible to the audience you select.
- With service providers that operate the app's infrastructure on our behalf — see Section 5.
- For legal and safety reasons, if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Service providers
We rely on the following providers ("sub-processors") to run Trackster. They process data only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Account authentication (Cognito), photo storage (S3), content delivery (CloudFront), and database/server hosting. |
| "Sign in with Google" authentication, and push notification delivery via Firebase Cloud Messaging. | |
| Apple | "Sign in with Apple" authentication and push notification delivery (APNs). |
6. Data retention
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data as described below, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with the law.
7. Deleting your account and data
You can permanently delete your account directly in the app at any time: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account removes your profile, activities, routes, photos, comments, likes, chat messages, and friend connections from our active systems. This action is irreversible. You may also request deletion by emailing us at the address below.
8. Security
We protect your data using industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encryption at rest for stored data, access controls, and authenticated, token-based API access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and continuously improve our safeguards.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your data (see Section 7);
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw permissions (such as location, camera, photos, or notifications) through your device settings.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
10. Children's privacy
Trackster is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Trackster after an update means you accept the revised policy.
12. Contact us
